The Courage Attitude / Tough Questions
Are you a man or a mouse? Are you a doer or a follower? Do you have great ideas but don't act on them? Do you dream big but act small?
One of the first steps to developing a courageous attitude is to be completely honest with yourself. You've all heard this advice before, and you may have even said "Okay." But have you really answered the hard questions about yourself? I didn't think so.
But, it's okay. Look, we all sit on the sidelines from time to time. We lead busy lives and we have responsibilities. I understand. But at some point you need to create a paradigm shift, because before you know it you will be 85, sitting on the couch watching Jerry Springer reruns and you won't want to be bothered.
The Courage Attitude / Move
So how do you develop a courage attitude? Simple, you decide to. As Albert Einstein says, "Nothing happens until something moves." Well that something is you.
When you get to a point in your life where you are feeling dissatisfied, unchallenged, and uninspired this is when you need to do something - anything. Your courage attitude will kick into gear when you start playing with your imagination, and come up with some interesting activities that you can participate in.
Think out of the ordinary. Get curious. Allow yourself to experience discomfort. That unpleasant feeling will pass, and soon you will move into simply being in the moment. Enjoy the experience of doing something different - taking a pottery class, wearing a hat, or painting a room in your apartment.
The Courage Attitude / Dream
Getting started is always the hardest part. But the truth is most people have brilliant ideas all the time. They have thoughts of incredible things they can do but they simply fail to act on them. Why not practice putting form to your ideas?
Here's another great quote from Albert Einstein, "All these primary impulses, not easily described in words, are the springs of man's actions."
The next time you have a 'crazy idea' don't be too quick to discount it. This was a bad habit we picked up when we were kids. Our well-meaning parents discouraged us from using the playful imaginative part ourselves. They would tell us to 'stop it' and 'it's time to grow up' and other phrases that ingrained limiting beliefs in us.
Well, it's time to create some new beliefs and start having some fun. It's interesting to think that it actually takes courage to have fun, but it's true. You are an adult now, and that means you can give yourself permission to think foolish and silly thoughts - dream about what it would like to invent a new toy for your dog and imagine what it would be like to start a business from home selling things you made with your own hands.
Your dreams are a part of you. They didn't leave you when you turned 10 or 15 or 21. You might have to dig a little to bring them up to the surface but you can do it.
This is your courage attitude bubbling to the surface.
The next step is taking decided action to bring it form. You are the creator of your life. This is how you got to be where you are in this moment in time. So if you are not altogether happy where you are, you have all the power to do something about it.
I want to leave you with one final thought about the courage attitude. It has to do with imagination. I believe imagination holds the key because if you can imagine it, you can live it. To sum up this discussion of the courage attitude here is a quote by L. Frank Baum, author of the popular book, The Wizard of Oz,
"Imagination has brought mankind through the dark ages to its present state of civilization. Imagination led Columbus to discover America. Imagination led Franklin to discover electricity."
