Define Motivation / From your Chatsworth Fulfillment House, River Plate
This page is brought to you by your friendly Southern California Fulfillment House, River Plate. We have had the great good fortune to expand our business, so we just moved to a new larger facility. And we are now your Chatsworth Fulfillment and Trucking Facility .
One of the reasons we moved to a larger facility is because our clients are doing so well. And when our clients do well, we do well. Many of our customers have stores online, and we provide the fulfillment services for their inventory - pick and packing, custom assembly, shrink wrap service, and a lot more.
Define Motivation / The Psychology of Staying Motivated
Psychology defines motivation as 'the internal process that makes a person move towards a goal.' Motivation is the drive and the energy to achieve a certain purpose. Simply put, motivation is the reason why we behave the way we do.
Even the simple act of drinking a cup of coffee is driven by that need to partake in something hot or the need to be stimulated or simply the need to feel the relaxing comfort a cup of coffee brings.
Define Motivation / Motivation in the Workplace
In the workplace, motivation can be defined as a means to an end. That end is different for each of us. For instance, some of us are motivated by money, power, status and/or recognition. Management has the tough job of figuring out what motivates which emloyee, since motivational factors differ in all of us.
Psychologists are fascinated by motivation. In an organizational setting, studies have been conducted in order to determine the factors that affect the motivation of employees. These studies have shown that while a good salary and status are good motivators, these are also not enough. Recognition, job advancement and personal growth rank as among the highest motivational factors in the workplace.
This is why management is has a tough job of figuring out what motivates whom. Taking away salary and existing on recognition is simply not possible. Besides having a lot of dissatisfied workers, this situation is not realistic.
Money and power are good motivators because it gives the employees the feeling of job security. But, employees also need challenge, recognition, the need to maximize their potential and grow personally. Finding the correct balance between job satisfaction and personal growth has had psychologists and managers busy with continuous research and study.
Motivation is directly related to productivity. An employee who is motivated to work, to strive for his personal goals is a productive worker. A motivated worker is efficient, happy and secure. His motivation has the power to motivate other employees thereby creating a chain of motivated staff members who contribute to productivity and profits.
Define Motivation / Motivation in the Workplace
We all have our reasons why we do something. Psychologists say that these actions are in response to our basic physiological, social and personal needs. And they are right. Actions are based on our needs and wants. Just by simply shifting in our chairs seem like an involuntary action but we are actually shifting because muscles ache and our bodies are looking for a more comfortable position. Shifting in our chairs is answering a need.
Define Motivation / Why do we work?
Which brings us to the question: Why do we work? Why clock in day in day out? Simple, we clock in so that we can afford the basic necessities human beings need in order to live. We need food, clothing, water and shelter. We have responsibilities like a mortgage, kids to feed and send to school, and a family to protect and provide for.
Most of the time these responsibilities take center stage as our primary motivator. I have often come across successful entrepreneurs who had impoverished backgrounds, which motivated them to strive towards their goal.
At first it was just to put food on the table. Next it was to send a brother or sister to school, then it was the desire to live in a better place. After that, it was for personal gain, and so on. Human beings needs and wants are never satisfied, instead when a need has been gratified it goes on to the next and often creates a more complicated need or want.
Personal tragedy is also a good motivator. As stated earlier, responsibilities take center stage in our lives and even though life deals us with a lot of bumps and hurdles, responsibilities will always be there waiting for us at the end of the day. Daniela Rodriguez, the owner of River Plate Fulfillment & Trucking, had a serious car accident andsuddenly became the breadwinner of the family. With children and other responsibilities she had no choice but to step up. The need to overcome this tragedy, the need to face her responsibilities and the need to prove to herself that she could do it has led to her transformation as a very strong and determined individual.
Define Motivation / Motivation in the Workplace
Money and responsibilities may seem like petty motivational tools to some people but they have helped Daniela grow and realize her full potential as a person. Because of Daniela's challenges (read her story on the Definition of Courage page) she has been able to overcome a lot of other issues and problems that have come her way. It has helped her spread her wings, become stronger and has motivated her to motivate others as well.
We all know about life isn’t smooth sailing all the way. But by motivating ourselves to rise to challenges and to become the person we want to become we grow into a more mature, more responsible and more psychologically balanced person who contributes to society in a very positive way.
