Dog Fundraising / What is it?
Are you your dog’s best friend? If so you and a lot of people have something in common. We all love our furry friends and we’d like to see something done about their less privileged cousins. One of the ways we can do that is to support dog fundraising events.
These events are held for projects that will benefit the poor defenseless dogs that have often suffered in the hands of abusive owners or have been abandoned. Some of these events are held for a specific purpose like keeping a certain shelter open or some for a more generalized purpose like raising operating expenses for an organization.
Here are some events that are organized specifically for the benefit of our furry friends:
- 10th Anniversary of Assistance Dogs of America, Inc’s Golf Classic-The Assistance Dogs event was scheduled to be held on May 16 this year at the Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio. Last year this event raised about $30,000 with the help of various sponsors, donors, guests, and golfers. The guest speaker was 12 year graduate Zac Zies who spoke about the enormous difference that his service dog, Zane made in his life.
- Charity Collars for Cancer- if you think only people get cancer then you’re wrong. Our beloved pets also have the probability of getting the same kind of cancer that people get. Dogs are 35 times more prone to skin cancer than people. Their chances of getting breast cancer is eight times more and they have double the chance of getting leukemia. Each charity collar provides $2 to the Animal Cancer Foundation. To find out more about the Charity Collars for Cancer click on this link.
- Owners & Dogs Race- On September 14, 2009 pooches and their human counterparts came together and raced in a local Florida event to raise money for rabies control. "It brings out a lot of people in the community and connects them with the vet school," said Annie Martin, the event coordinator and a second-year student at UF's veterinary school. As one of the participants, Leslie Lear says, "We like doing this because it's for a good cause. The vet school takes care of our dogs. They've really helped us when they've gotten in trouble."
