FaceBook Problems

Facebook is home to more than 200 million users worldwide. It’s popularity and overall appeal as the Web’s most popular social networking website has earned itself a no.4 ranking in Alexa.com. It has overtaken another social networking giant, MySpace, and now reigns supreme among the social networking sites.

However, not everything is picture perfect on this mega-website. Every once in a while glitches and problems cause the site to crash and bum out users. Minor irritants can cause problems like inability to log in, problems in logging out or inability to write on your friends' walls.

FaceBook Problems / Virus

Technical problems are common enough on websites especially those that handle high traffic such as Facebook. One of the biggest problems the website had to face was when a virus that masqueraded as a flash program stole identities and credit card numbers of users online.

The Koobface virus infected a lot of Facebook users when it peaked in December of 2008. The virus had tantalizing messages like “ I saw you dance wildly on Cam. Click here to view”, and similar messages meant to inspire curiosity and clicks. When users clicked the link they were asked to update their flash players. The virus then hid in the code and waited for unsuspecting members to buy something online and then stole their account numbers.

FaceBook Problems / Improper Access

More recently Facebook had to turn over the management of certain pages including Microsoft Inc and American Airlines when users found that there was information found on the pages that were not uploaded by the creators of the page.

Users are allowed to make personal pages and pages for organizations, institutions and other similar entities in order to share and connect with people with the same interest. However late last month a CEO of a Chicago based training company discovered that he had access to pages belonging to Microsoft and American Airlines and a page dedicated to Star Wars that allowed him to send messages to over 825,000 fans.

Facebook believes that this recent glitch was caused by a recent redesign in their system. Network administrators believed that it was a kink in their code. They also discovered that the glitch in the system temporarily gave certain users administrative privileges to the website. Facebook shut down immediately in order to fix the bug.

FaceBook Problems / Other Problems

Other problems Facebook and social networking websites face everyday are hackers and sexual predators who constantly target social networking websites. Hackers steal information stored by members on Facebook while sexual predators use Facebook to spy on their targets.

Facebook has always cautioned its users to exercise security always. Facebook users are always advised by the website to select the highest security settings and to scrutinize every friend request.
