Fundraising For Autism / What is Autism

Autism is a developmental disorder that ranges from mild to severe. It often begins at birth but its onset can also be within the first two and one half years of life. Most autistic children are quite normal in their outward appearance but they usually engage in puzzling and disturbing behavior which they engage in almost all their waking hours. These types of behavior are distinctly different from other children of the same age group. Sometimes less severe cases are diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome or PDD which stands for pervasive developmental disorder.

Fundraising For Autism / Is autism a common occurrence in children?

Autism was actually a rare occurrence before the 1990’s where it only happened in 5 children out of 10,000 live births. However during the 1990’s occurrences increased exponentially with figures reaching going up to 60 occurrences in every 10,000 births with boys outnumbering girls at a rate of four to one. The Center for Disease Control even reported that in 2007 that 1 in 150 children are diagnosed with autism.

This means that autism is has now reached epidemic proportions. Physicians today have better tools and have better information. They are able to diagnose more accurately and precisely. Innovations and new discoveries in teaching methods have made a huge difference for children living with autism. Changes in diet, nutrition, and heavy metal detox have made improvements in the conditions of children with autism.

Fundraising For Autism / Why fundraisers for autism?

There is a need to bring more awareness to this disorder. More support must be given to communities, families, and organizations that are struggling to create more understanding and support them in their effort to stop this unwanted affliction. There are a lot of ways we can support the research and treatment of autism or any of its less severe occurrences. Various events are organized regularly as fundraisers for various groups. You can also organize your own events and donate proceeds to concerned groups like the National Autistic Society.

We can defeat this affliction that is plaguing more and more of our defenseless children if we all pitch in to do our part. We can volunteer or we can give heartily to this cause against a menace that is robbing our children of the chance to live normal lives.
