The owner of Riverplate, Daniela Rodriguez, is a very smart Latino businesswoman from Argentina. And since her roots partly define who she is, Ms. Rodriguez felt it was important to share this series of pages dedicated to the Latina community.

Do you ever wonder what types of activities are happening inside world of women entrepreneurs? Women are now the dominant force in small business ownership, and succeeding in industries that were once taboo for women. Women are not only starting business, they are staying in business and thriving.

For a woman who wants to combine career aspirations and still maintain a strong family bond, the challenges are ongoing. For Latino businesswomen the challenges are even greater. Culturally Latina women are mothers and the caretakers of the family. To break away from this mold is a difficult thing to do.

Traditionally the Latino male is the breadwinner, but even if he is having difficulty supporting the family his ego may have a hard time reconciling with a woman that wants to step it up.

Breaking out-dated notions and labels today are just as difficult as they were at the turn of the century. But since the consciousness of the world is evolving, many Latina women are feeling the urge to spread their wings, and taking on tasks outside the role of caretaker.

Nowadays Latino women are becoming more and more prominent on the Web. Jon Roberts, a senior consultant at the Meta Group Consulting Inc. in Atlanta, said Ellasavvy.com, a web portal in Spanish and Portuguese for women in the United States and Latin America, could provide a good opportunity to reach women online. "It's early, and it's a big piece of pie, so if they get in now they could create a great way to reach a very targeted audience."

Another popular website reaching out to the Latina community is The National Latina Business Women Association, whose mission is "to promote, develop, and support the rapid growth of Latina business owners and professionals."

What do you need to be an entrepreneur?

Believe in yourself, always a positive attitude, discipline, honesty.

What did inspire you to start your business?

My business started by accident, from a necessary when my husband had a very bad car accident and I had to put food on the table for my kids.

What is your favorite quote?

If there is will, there is a way. In Spanish (Querer as poder)

Do you consider yourself an innovator? Why?

No, I don't, I consider myself a person with a very strong inner strength.
