The owner of Riverplate, Daniela Rodriguez, is a very smart Latino businesswoman from Argentina. And since her roots partly define who she is, Ms. Rodriguez felt it was important to share this series of pages dedicated to the Latina community.

Latino Workforce / The Stats

Hispanics represent a significant part of the U.S. workforce and can be seen at all levels serving in various jobs across the spectrum. The Pew Hispanic Center estimates U.S. Hispanics represent 13.6% of the total U.S. workforce in 2006.The same study, estimates 36.7% of U.S. job growth to consist of Hispanic applicants.

Los Angeles is rapidly becoming the city in the United States for Latinos to do business. Hispanic Business Magazine recently rated the region No.1 in its top 10 ranking of best cities for new Latino entrepreneurs. In the last two decades the number of Latino-owned business in the L.A. area has grown three times faster than the Latino population itself, according to census data.

Latino Workforce / Business Growth

Hispanic employment has been growing at approximately a rate of 16% since 2000, or the general population's employment growth has been growing at 2% on average according to Hispantelligence.

In the professional world, Hispanics represent 13% of the workforce. African-Americans compose of 5.7% of the professional workforce and Asian Americans comprise 9.8% of the professional workforce.

Latino Workforce / Growing Market

Heightened business interest in the region's critical mass of Latino residents has created a ready-made niche for people who can help companies reach the $70 billion Latino consumer market. Many major companies - notably those in retail, health care, telecommunications, car sales and financial planning are aggressively seeking a greater share of this market and hiring more and more Latino employees and consultants.

In agriculture, as a percentage of the general U.S. population, Hispanics represent 19.4% of the agricultural workforce in the U.S., African-Americans 2.7% of the agricultural workforce and Asian Americans 1.2% of the agricultural workforce.

In construction, as a percentage of the general U.S. population, Hispanics represent 25.1% of the construction workforce in the U.S., African-American 5.5% of the construction workforce and Asian Americans 1.2% of the construction workforce.

In the hospitality industry, as a percentage of the general U.S. Population, Hispanics represent 20.1% of the hospitality workforce in the U.S., African-Americans 10.5% of the hospitality workforce and Asian Americans 5.9% of the hospitality workforce.
