Leadership Qualities / Are You Born to Lead?

It has been said that a leader is not born he is made. However, becoming a leader should not be dependent on whether you believe this ideology. To be a leader there are certain qualities or traits that must be displayed in order to garner the respect of those who follow.

Leadership Qualities / Traits Revealed

Honesty.
One of the most important traits that a leader should possess is that of honesty. People will follow someone who is honest. Leaders should be trustworthy; they should inspire the confidence of their followers, so the team is working toward a common goal with their hearts and their minds.

Visionary.
A leader must also have a vision. There must be a goal that is to be attained and a leader must be committed to fulfilling that goal. Followers should be inspired by this purpose of mind that the leader has and support his vision.

Competent.
A man (or woman) cannot become a leader without being competent. No one wants to have an incompetent person leading him (or her). This does not mean that a leader must be the foremost expert in every area of the organization but he must be able to demonstrate competency and, if necessary, delegate tasks that others display an aptitude for. Followers must feel confident in the direction the leader is taking them.

Inspiring.
A leader must inspire his followers. People want to be inspired. There are some people who will follow a leader just because he is inspiring even if he does not possess other qualities. Just think of the many spiritual gurus that have been revered over the years.

These charismatic individuals possess an ability to inspire people to attain great spiritual heights because they themselves have realized this vision before. They have the ability to initiate a desire in others to do the same.

Intelligent and Charismatic.
A leader must be intelligent and charismatic. A leader should be able to speak proficiently in his field of business. He must be able to communicate effectively with his followers and fellow leaders. A leader must exude a charm that can captivate even the most indifferent audience.

There have been instances where a leader might not have been well educated, but his desire for knowledge was so great that he made himself knowledgeable. A leader should always desire to increase his intelligence. This quality to develop his mind will determine how long he will remain a leader.
