When you work for a cause you believe in you sometimes you have to find ways to raise some money for the group’s operating expenses or for some other purpose. One of the best ways to raise money is through fundraising events.

There are a lot of ways to organize a fundraising event and it’s limited only by your imagination. The list of fundraising ideas that follows will give you lots of ideas for the many types of fundraisers you can organize. Some of these are specific to an occasion but they can easily be tweaked and used for any purpose.

Sponsorships and Donations

Send out letters asking for donations for your cause. Explain your goals and your needs.
Approach businesses in the area and ask for their donations or support.
Many civic clubs such as Lions or Eagles will support certain kinds of activities. You can ask them for donations or participations.
Employers and local businesses are often willing to match proceeds or a certain percentage of your fundraising events.
Some foundations that have endowments might be willing to allow a grant for your organization especially if the fundraiser is for an educational project.
Donation containers should be displayed prominently in any fundraising event. Additionally most establishments allow you to leave donation containers on their countertops.

Fundraising Activities / List of Fundraising Ideas

A car wash is always a good fundraiser. Just make sure you publicize the event thoroughly before the target date.
Organize a handy man event. Your group can offer to do yard chores, painting, or other minor repairs for a small fee.
Ask a local band to hold a benefit dance. They can donate part of the gate earnings to your group. Your group can take charge of the promotion and the collection of entrance fees.
Serve meals for a cause. Pancake breakfasts, spaghetti luncheons, soup dinners - these can all serve your purpose.

Raffles and Contests

With enough effort in selling tickets a ticket raffle can be a great way to raise money for a specific purpose. Local businesses can be tapped to donate prizes for the raffle.
Athletic events like bikathons, walkathons, swimathons, marathons, and other similar events can give tremendous exposure for your cause. Try to get pledges from individuals and employers for total laps or total miles completed.

Hold garage sales with items donated by members of your group and other solicited items.
Bake and craft sales can be organized with donated items.
Collectibles, flea markets, and swap meetings.
