Motivation in the Workplace / From your Chatsworth Fulfillment House, River Plate
This page is brought to you by your friendly Southern California Fulfillment House, River Plate. We have had the great good fortune to expand our business, so we just moved to a new larger facility. And we are now your Chatsworth Fulfillment and Trucking Facility.
One of the reasons we moved to a larger facility is because our clients are doing so well. And when our clients do well, we do well. Many of our customers have stores online, and we provide the fulfillment services for their inventory - pick and packing, custom assembly, shrink wrap service, and a lot more.
Motivation in the Workplace / What is Motivation?
First of all, let us define motivation. Simply speaking, motivation is the desire to accomplish a certain goal. It is your drive, your inspiration, and your reason that you do something.
So when we speak about motivation in the workplace, we look at why we work, and the reasons why we work; it is why we get up, show up and clock in, day in and day out.
Working is more than just the time we put in while at the office. It is more than the pay check we receive each week. Working is a part of who we are. We may have different reasons why we work and these reasons are as different and as unique as we are.
Motivation in the Workplace / Motivating Your Employees
It is because of our unique reasons that each of us have different motivations. But it is a proven fact that employees have a direct effect on the business. Employees may be motivated by financial or personal reasons so it has become essential for the smart businessman to find out what these motivations are and how they affect their employees.
It is a fact that a happy person is a happy employee. And the number of employees you have does not matter, whether it is a single employee or one hundred; one of the jobs of management is to ensure that everybody is motivated to ensure that you as an organization meet your goals.
There is no “one option fits all” aspect to motivating your employees. While it is a fact a large salary is a very good motivational tool for most employees, it is also not true for everybody. Money is a good incentive but for some people, there are more important factors like job security, career advancement, travel opportunities and recognition.
Management has to be aware that different people have different needs and thus motivational styles and techniques have to vary in order to keep the workplace a productive environment.
At River Plate, we recognize this and know that our employees do not only need a good salary but also room to grow and improve. Our employees also need a safe work environment and job security. Working at River Plate does not only mean packaging, wrapping and shipping goods around the world. It is also about the person doing those jobs, and at River Plate we treat out employees like family.
Motivation in the Workplace / From the Home to the Workplace
There are many external factors that affect the way our employees behave while within our walls. These factors may be personal (i.e. family responsibilities), financial, or professional (i.e. office gossip or professional rivalry). These factors affect the way our employees behave and this behavior has an effect on productivity.
As managers one of our primary roles is to make sure that productivity in the workplace is undisrupted. And productivity and motivation are directly related. An employee who is motivated to do his best is inspired to work and give it his all. His productivity is unaffected and may even improve. This is why we say that a happy person is a productive person.
On the other hand, an employee who has a lot of problems at home, coupled with friction in the workplace is lifeless, dull and uninspired. His productivity is at a low due to his inability to concentrate with work. He is not motivated.
Motivation in the Workplace / Overcoming Adversity
There are people however who turn personal tragedies into motivational tools. And this should be the outlook of everybody, not just in the workplace but in our personal lives as well. Tragedies, problems, hurdles are all facts of life. But our responsibilities to our families, our personal selves and our community should be motivation enough for us to never give up. Personal problems at home can be transformed into inspiration to work harder at the office.
Motivation in the Workplace / Self Motivation
This brings us to our last section, self-motivation. Managers or organizations may not recognize the need for motivation. This is why we need to self motivate - to drive and ourselves.
Take the Latino community for example. Many Latinos have migrated to the United States in search of a better life and greener pastures. But what motivated them to move here in the first place. Nobody back at home told them to come to the US. But it is that need within for something better that drives one to leave his home. This is self motivation. The drive to seek higher ground, the need to persevere, to improve is within us all.
This is why motivation is not only important in the workplace, it is also important personally in order to grow and overcome the challenges that life throws our way.
