Cabela's, self proclaimed as the World's Foremost Outfitter of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, was founded in 1961 by Dick Cabela. After coming up with a plan to sell fishing flies he purchased while in Chicago, he ran an ad that generated one response. He subsequently revised the ad and Cabela’s was born. It literally started as a kitchen table direct-mail business. Through growth and superior know-how the business operation moved from kitchen table to basement to a 50,000 square-foot vacant John Deere building in neighboring downtown Sidney, Nebraska.

Now the main world headquarters building sits along Interstate 80 in Sidney and encompasses more than 250,000 square feet. Through many years of hard work the company now ships nearly 100 different catalogs per year, including specialty books focusing on all sorts of outdoor sports and activities, as well as massive semi-annual “master” catalogs that are shipped to all 50 states and 125 countries.
