QVC Home Shopping / The Basics

QVC Inc. is a multinational corporation that was founded by Joseph Segel in 1986. This mega-business streams through millions of television sets so people can shop at home. QVC Incorporated caters to any kind of business, whether its jewelry or fishing.

QVC stands for Quality, Value, and Convenience. These are the three concepts that Segel came up with for the company, which eventually became their slogan. QVC home shopping is owned by the Liberty Media Corporation and attributed to LINTA. LINTA stands for Liberty Interactive Group.

Of the five major countries QVC has been broadcasted, it reaches out to approximately 150 million customers. QVC home shopping is operating in the United States of America, Italy, Germany, Japan, and United Kingdom. Although it was founded on June 13, 1986, QVC’s first live broadcast materialized only after five months. It was on November 24, 1986 when a shower radio had been featured by hosts Bob Bowersox and Kathy Levine.

QVC was then broadcasting for sixteen hours but it was extended to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week a year later. As a new company, they set a record of 112 million US dollars in sales for their first year. People have witnessed the success of QVC despite the risky field of retail, and because of that, Cable Value Network (CVN) was founded in 1989, taking the risk of being QVC’s competitor. But even though CVN built a corporation twice as big as QVC, QVC eventually replaced CVN.

QVC home shopping started to progress and launch their branch in United Kingdom when they closed a deal with British Sky Broadcasting in 1993, and their first official airing took place on October of that year. They did not stop launching other branches. Currently their channel is carried in different major cities in the United States of America and most other developed countries.

As technology gets more and more developed, QVC invaded the worldwide web and launched online on September 9, 1996. The company launched QVC.com to reach out even further to their loyal audience. QVC’s products can be purchased online at http://www.qvc.com.

In just a year's time QVC receives almost 200 million phone calls in the United States of America alone and they shipped almost 170 million units worldwide that resulted in sales of 7 billion US dollars. That's capitalism at its finest.
