Sample Fundraising Proposal / What is a Fundraising Proposal

A fundraising proposal is a document that communicates the financial needs of an organization to a potential donor. Many potential donors base their decision on this written document. The skill of writing a fundraising proposal is probably one of the most important tools that a successful fundraiser will need. Most often a successful proposal is a good one and an unsuccessful one is badly constructed. The parts of the proposal given below will be your guide to writing a successful proposal.

The Summary- should contain detailed information such as the project name, location, specific activities, the organization’s name, a contact person, the total budget figure, including the amount of money that you are requesting.

Sample Fundraising Proposal / The Introduction- should provide details about your organization, when and why it was established, what you have accomplished so far, and the relevance of your project to the present situation. Also provide details about the problem you hope to address and the people that your projects hope to help.

Project Details- give exact details of the solution that your organization is planning to use to solve the problem that you have outlined. Describe the goals of your organization and keep in mind that these goals must be achievable and realistic. Give a breakdown of how you plan to achieve those goals. Details about the resources other than financial that are available to you must be included. Finally outline the monitoring and evaluation system that you will institute to check the progress of the project.

Sample Fundraising Proposal / Conclusion- gives an explanation of how the funds you are requesting will be used and accounted for. Explain concisely why your project will help the outlined problem.

The Budget- this is one of the most important parts of your proposal. This is the financial plan that will control allocation of funds for the entire project. Thorough research must be done so you can compute your expenses. Allow for contingencies in your budget.
