Symbols of Courage / Enthusiasm in the Face of Failure

Courage is the ability to overcome danger, pain, fear, misfortune and injustice. Winston Churchill once said that courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm. Of course, it is not easy to stay enthusiastic experiencing one failure after another and facing one misfortune after another. If it was easy, everyone would be successful.

But for those who remain vigilant, success and peace of mind are attainable. Brave people always reach their personal life goals, becoming symbols of courage. Their life stories are treated as manuals for other people to succeed while persevering to make their own dreams come true.

Symbols of Courage / Ray Kroc

Ray Kroc is one of the most well known entrepreneurs of the 20th century. He built the world-known, multi-million fast-food empire, called McDonalds. Of course, his lucky star led him to the right place and the right timing, but his personal incredible courage to take on risky challenges, which other people considered to be initially doomed to failure, finally made Ray Kroc one of the most successful businessmen of 20th century.

Ray Kroc started to work very early as a salesman and he was very good at it. While at school Ray sold lemonade in front of his house and soda in the local grocery store. Later, having no patience for studying, he quit school and joined the team of the Lily-Tulip Cup Company and soon became the best top salesman.

Symbols of Courage / Meeting of the Minds

While selling cups, Ray Kroc once met Earl Prince, who invented the Multimixer, a milkshake-mixing machine with five spindles. The Multimixer seemed to be useful but, according to Earl, was pretty difficult to promote and sell. Well...not for Mr. Kroc, who quickly understood the aspects of selling such machines to restaurants and was brave enough to spend the next decade of his life selling Multimixer nationwide. This was a very fruitful period for Ray.

When sales of the Multimixer began to fade, destiny brought Ray Kroc to a small restaurant in California, where two brothers sold hamburgers, french fries and drinks. There were no seating places in the restaurant, but the customers received their orders within a minute thanks to a specific assembly-line fashion process. The names of the brothers were Dick and Mac McDonalds.

Symbols of Courage / Joining MacDonalds

Without hesitation, Ray Kroc decided to jump into the food business and create a national network of McDonald’s restaurants. It is interesting to note, the businessman did not operate the restaurants by himself – he just sold the idea to a franchisee for 1.9 percents of their gross sales. Soon he bought the brand name from the McDonald brothers. Within a few years Ray Kroc had amassed a restaurant network that included 700 McDonald’s restaurants in 44 US states. Now it is a multi-national corporation, where a new restaurant opens every 17 hours.

The whole life story of Ray Kroc shows that this man was not an innovator, but he was brave enough to take a calculated risk. And because of his bravery he created huge successes where others would have given up.

Symbols of Courage / Louise Hay

Another story of courage is the life story of Louise Hay, a motivational writer and founder of Hay House publishing company. Her childhood was full of misery and poverty and her teen years were marked with abuse. And later, as a adult, her outwardly happy family life with a wealthy businessman was not at all happy. In spite of all those misfortunes Louise Hay found enough courage not only to overcome her personal calamities, but she managed to spread her optimism and positive thinking to other people.

Symbols of Courage / Heal Your Body and Your Life

Louise Hay started her professional career as a personal motivational counselor and soon published her first book, “Heal Your Body." In this book she explains how wrong thinking may cause real physical disorders and she goes on to explain how one can regain health with positive thinking.

Louise Hay finally seemed to be entering a great period of her life, but then destiny sent her another ordeal: she was diagnosed with cancer. But even this extremely serious and life-threatening illness did not overpower her strong will and outstanding courage. She refused traditional medicinal options of cancer treatments, and plunged herself into psychotherapy, visualization, and nutritional cleansing. As a result, she cured herself from cancer within 6 months.

After that period Louise Hay issued another book, “You Can Heal Your Life”, which became a New York Times bestseller. Soon she started her own publishing house, which is flourishing these days.

Symbols of Courage / Conclusion

Human life is not a pot of honey for most of us. It is the bitter truth of life that we have to fight misfortunes and challenges even if we do not see the prize. However, the life stories of such people as Ray Kroc and Louise Hay show that strong will, belief and courage will be rewarded.

The point is not to build a multi-million company (although that may happen), but in finding your own place in the world and in attaining peace of mind. With strong will and courage Ray Kroc and Louise Hay changed their lives for the better and found their point of happiness, and they are truly shining symbols of courage for all of us to follow.
